P2 Reunion!
From USA 06/07 in Madison, United States on Jan 04 '07
Hello Tricia!!! *much giggling and giddy little school girl stuff*
If I didn't know better, I'd say a typical Madisonite non uni student day consisted of waking up, eating, drinking, eating, sleeping, drinking and drinking and eating. Good thing I know better.
We took a walk along State Street. A great street with a lots of boutique stores. Apparently there was a bit of a protest when a GAP store appeared on the street.
We stopped by a cheese store where they sold the Cheesehead hats of different varieties like top hat, ball cap and swiss cheese. There was also a fair variety of cheese and a map for putting in pins of where you were from. I was the first from Australia! Tried Cold Stone ice cream. You can order a pre set combination like Cookie Doughn't You Want Some (vanilla with caramel and cookie dough) or Candy Land (cake batter ice cream with smarties and other stuff) and they will take a big scoop of icecream and mix and crush it in front of you before putting it into a cup. Then if you tip them they are meant to sing the Cold Stone song (to the tune of The Flinstones theme). We got jipped out of the song. The ice cream was really good but I'm glad I only got the small. They should make a size 'Tiny'. We walked through the ghostly halls of Memorial Union building (where the bus dropped me off yesterday). Ghostly only because people are still on break so no one was there. We took a nice chilly walk along the unfrozen (very unusual for this time of year) lake and up the one and only hill in Madison to visit Papa Knickmeyer. This is where the returning home and sleeping part came in. Being 8pm we thought we ought to drag our butts out considering how much ice cream was et. A doctor Jamie works with plays guitar and his daughter sings in a band they named Jeannie and the Greyman. We went to see them play in at a cafe (the daughter has an amazing voice) and then went out for drinks at Cheeseburger (a chain owned by Jimmy Buffet). Try the frozen margaritas. They make funky animals with sunglasses out of fruit that they put on the glass and minicheeseburgers, both of which are cute and worth the trip if nothing else. That cafe that Jeannie and the Greyman played at, if anyone discovers which cafe that was, it has really nice hot chocolate. It doesn't come out of a packet!
