Kraking it up

From Easter Break (Spring Break) in Krakow, Poland on Apr 02 '07

I feel much better today yet again.  But now I'm really drowsy.  I started walking out anyway.  I did a lap around the city center's Old Town.  There wasn't much there but the normal tourist attractions and street-performers and vendors selling nothing worth buying.  I walked up to Wawel Hill, which is sort of equivalent to their castle.  I saw their armory which was neat.  THey had a lot of swords, guns (like musket-style), knight's armor, helmets, shields, lances, horse's adornments, and...those weapons that look like axes on long poles.  Anyway, I was glad to see those because I haven't seen any yet while on my Europe trip.  I stopped in on the cathedral oin the hill, which was nothing short of amazing.  Though the interior is absolutely stunning, I'm less impressed just because I  have seen similar ones.  I  am also less impressed with art museums and historical museums with roman artifacts and all that jazz.  Oh well.

I had to take many breaks while I walked around, quite uncharacteristic of me.  I brought a 1.5L bottle of water with me.  Unfortunately, it  was sparkling water and tasted nasty.  I drank it anyway because I was sooo thirsty.  Europe loves their sparkling water  I suppose.  I'm glad it hasn't really caught in the states.  II had a simple kebab for lunch and ate it in the Old Town Square as I watched street performers get passed up by many tourists unwilling to shell out the change to make them move.  I can't blame the tourists because they're all very similar.  Even along Kalakaua streetin Waikiki it is like that.

i felt the food-coma sieze me almost immediately after eating and knew I was satisfied.

I walked back towards the hostel's area along the Wista river.  The water was very murky and I couldn't see anything swimming around in it, not a good sign.  The hostel did warn me that no tap water in Krakow should be trusted.  I bought a two-gallon bottle of water and have been living off of it while in the hostel.

I stopped by Schindler's Factory, or what remains.  It was less than impressive.  They also had a "Museum" which consisted of a slide show playing from a projector.  Good thing they didn't charge for it or I would have felt very ripped off.

I stopped by another grocer to buy non-carbonated water and apple juice.  Their apple juice here tastes absolutely HORRIBLE!  It tastes like fresh-squeezed apple juice with toothpaste thrown in.  There's definitely some sort of minty tingling taste in there that shouldn't be.  I gulped it down and then took a larger gulp of water.

I went back to the hostel at 1645 because I was soo tired.  I took a nice 2.5 hr nap and then headed out to dinner.  I found a restaurant nearby that served burritos!  I was just craving Patty's the other day so I was soooo excited to eat here.  It was also recommeded by Let's Go (not in my book since mine is for Western Europe but as indicated by a sticker on their door).  Their chili con carne burrito with lettuce, cheese, rice, and salsa was definitely tasty.  It was nowhere near as good as the mexican food in souther california, or even in Hawaii, but it was good nonetheless. I gladly welcomed it over the european foods I've been eating lately.  i felt the food-coma sieze me almost immediately after eating and knew I was satisfied.

I'm turning in early tonight so that I can go hiking tomorrow in Zakopane.  During the winter, the area is a ski resort.  During the summer, it offers beautiful hikes!  I'll be heading down there with Jeremy, the guy I met on the train to Krakow.  On a side note, he showed me is digital SLR and I think I want to get one later on (like 5-years kind of later on).  His pictures were tons better than I have ever taken: better resolution, focus, lighting, color, and sharpness.  All of his pictures were beautiful and really made Prague look more enchanting than it really was hahahaha!

Nothing much to report today since I was so lethagic in the way I moved aroud town that I didn't see much.  Okay, turning in.  I'm feeling healthy, just tired.  Love you all!

I'm glad you're feeling better...but you should be more wary about what you put in your stomach...like the toothpaste apple juice!!! Hope you have a good time hiking tomorrow. Can't wait to read about it.
