hola,

well we found it, (a touch of paradise :-) after a 5 hour jungle trip south along a dirt track and through rivers..all in a trusty toyota van...(no  4wd either).  Was an experience and very scenic...we stopped and saw a group of monkeys with little babies trying to swing on the branches..cute!

The taxi took us straight to his mates hotel and we were in.....stoked cos we got nice rooms with a big fridge and a nice shared kitchen, which me and Jamie made the most of and enjoyed some of our best feeds in a long while!!

Lost up the mountain...but wicked view!

After a nice meal, a few bears and some pool we had a good nights sleep...and were up early for a surf.  The beach was beautiful, goldern sand..really long..and fringed by the lush jungle and to top it off we had the best waves of our trip!! STOKED!!

This was Roddys last week with us and a great place for him to finish up....we all enjoyed the great surf..(were getting 3 surfs in a day) and good food,, rice cream, condensed milk porridge.. yum, vegie rissotto and bbq chicken and the bacon/egg/avo sarnies, (hey they dont sound that flash...but when uv been living on fried chicken, chips and burgers etc then u really appreciate a bit of good ole home cooking ;-)

By the end of our week here..we were really sore (5-6hrs surfing/day....was hard not to go out surfing cos we didnt know how long the waves would last) and the waves were really fun (were getting 3-4 ft)....the water was soooo warm..(hard to get refreshment from it) and the only thing that made us get out of the water was our hunger or fatigue.... We had a farewell party for Roddy at a local bar...and the next day Dan and his bro left for the San Jose airport...

Mal Pais was too good, so me and Jamie stayed on for a couple of days....we rented a quad motorbike for a day and went to check out Montezuma...(a small town about 40min away with a beautiful waterfall. On our way there we managed to get lost up a mountain..but scored a wicked view of Mal Pais.

Montezuma was ok..not as nice as Mal Pais and the food was really bad..we tried to order a couple of sandwhiches...the lady got mixed up and served us a sarnie fit for the rubbish bin... (lucky she only made one!)  We managed to find some ok sarnies.. a bit of a let down from our own home made versions..but they did filled the gap.

So we jumped back on our quad and drove to the park entrance.  The 1st waterfall was a nice easy stroll...then we wanted to get to the bigger one..which had one u could jump off.  We asked a local dude where the track was and he pointed up this steep hill... it was a bit freaky and there wasnt a defintite trail.  We were waiting for a snake or tarantula to come out at any moment... I stuck behind Jamie so was a bit better,, and we just made heaps of noise. After about a half hour trek over and around this hill we had to make a perilous decent down to the waterfall... there were spider webs all around the hand holds and I was so thankfall nothing came out of the holes!!

Well we made it down and it was well worth it...nice to be in fresh water and the 10metre jump over the waterfall was FUN!! (a lil sore, but still fun ;-) and there was a rope swing we could jump into the pool from and luckily on the other side of the waterfall there was a better trail to get back down. After a couple of hours we cruised back to Mal PAis... a lil sorer than when we started out... (Jamie' s driving was a bit on the rough side... I'm sure he thought the same about mine tho ;-)

and that was nearly the end of our time in Mal Pais...another day of surfing and laxing out... and then off to Jaco to meet up with Dan.......(we could have easily stayed for another week and chilled out..but there was still so much more to see)..........and thats another story.. ;-)
