It was certainly nice to arrive in Buenos Aires after all the cold weather we´ve been having in England.  We swiftly took a cab downtown and checked into the Sheraton (Cheers Euroclear!) and then went out strolling.  We headed for a place called Recoleta via the widest avenue in the world, Av Julo 9, which is 16 lanes wide and believe me, took some time to cross.  Unless you run, you can´t make it all the way across with the green man flashing, it has to be done in 2 stages.  We passed through an area called Retiro which was a bit like walking through Monte Carlo with all the Cartier and Ralph Lauren shops and also popped into Galleria Rubbers (art gallery!).   Recolata is a new development built just next to the famous Cementerio de la Recoleta which houses Evita Peron´s and many other magnificent graves.  That night, we meant to go swimming and then for dinner, but we fell asleep and did not wake until the next morning.

We went to Buenos Aires´main shopping street called Florida Av and then walked down to the port which was just like Canary Wharf, with nice restaurants and a Hooters, which Stephen made me promise we had to return to.  We went on to an old naval ship used in the 1800s, called Fragmata Sarmiento and then had to head back to commence the mammoth coach journey to Puerto Madryn which takes 16 hours!  Lots to look forward to there though..
