First day at work

It was my first day at work today, even though my contract start date was on November the 6th. So anyway I got up at 6.30am today made a couple of sandwiches with cheese and ham put on my black slacks and black shoes and I was out waiting for the 7:15am COP shuttle bus to start at 9am(yep that was the last shuttle bus that left before 9am), the shuttle ride took about  30 minutes. So once we got there I had a chat to a New Zealander and an Aussie that were also working in catering until 9am hit. Then we went to find Wayne(our boss) who is a very cool and down to earth kind of guy, he is one of those guys that doesn't care what you do as long as you get the job done. After a short meeting and waiting around for a few other people to join the group, our working day was simply going to be a tour around COP and the places where we would work and meeting other departments. So first up was the Winter Olympics Hall of Fame. It was pretty exciting in here because I got to see the Jamaican Bob Sleigh. The one that they used in the 1988 Winter Olympics at Calgary. I wish I had a camera to take some snaps but I'll be here for a while so there'd be plenty of time for that.

Next we hopped into a COP Van, the sliding doors were all iced up and it jammed the doors so we all had to get into the front passenger side and make our way to the back(but not me, because I was the last one to get in so I took shotgun). We then went to visit the Ski tower where all the skiiers would come flying down this slope and launch themselves into the air like superman. From where I was, the tower was so much on a slant that it looked almost vertical. I have to admit that people who are insanely enough to do this must have balls of steel because I don't. I mean I once held onto the back seat of a push bike while on rollerblades and my friend was riding and once the speed got up to 20kph I had to chicken out because it was getting to fast. So imagine going down a slope at least 100kph, I'd be wiping shit off my arse and that's only if I landed alright too.

The next few stops were at the venues where we would be working, these are just like function rooms etc, once I put my right foot out of the car and lifted my bum off the seat, my right foot slid on ice, I tried to recover my fall by attempting to grab onto the door handle and another part of the car but failed miserably and I ended up scaping some skin off my  right leg as it went under the door. I mean these black shoes I wore were for indoor use and even then they are quite slippery on tiles so walking on ice with these were almost impossible.

After the tour of different venues, Wayne brought us to a restaurant across the road and shouted us lunch, then we went back to COP and grabbed our uniforms. He then tried to drag the day out a bit longer for us so we can get some hours in, so he made us do little things like load up the Van with some boxes and moved some kegs to the kitchen and after that we called it a day. So an easy 6 hours of work and the next time I work is on a Tuesday. So another 3 days off and I can only see it being more drinking, more grocery shopping, and hopefully I'll get in a day of snowboarding.
