Paris is much more extraordinary than I ever expected

Paris is so beautiful. We made it here safely on Monday evening. Grant still seemed to be under the weather, mostly exhausted, and his cough had worsened. We went to the doctor Tuesday morning only to find out he had bronchitis. Ah, life never works how you plan it. I'm so glad we went to the doctor or things only would have gotten worse. Today he seems to be doing much better, thank goodness. The doctor said he should be on his way to a full recovery in two days.

This morning we went the Musee du Louvre. It is so much more breathtaking when you are standing there looking at it rather than seeing it on T.V. or in a movie. I was perfectly happy just standing there looking at it and its surroundings. I would have been satisfied without even going into the museum. It got even better once we were inside though. The museum is enormous. There is so much art and history in there, you could literally spend days looking at everything. The ceilings were most impressive, just as stunning as much of the art work. Almost the entire museum had ceilings that had marvelous artwork and architecture, you'll have to see a picture to understand. We saw many beautiful pieces, but the two most impressive were the Aphrodite sculpture and Mona Lisa painting. It was so incredible to be standing in front of the famous Mona Lisa painting. I mean I've seen the painting so many times in books and television, but to be standing there, 5 feet away, ah how thrilling! We were able to photograph many of the pieces throughout the museum, but sadly we were not able to photograph that little lady.

Grant was feeling tired by the time we were finished wondering through the Louvre. He headed back to the hotel to rest, while I ventured on. I walked from the museum down the rivers edge to the Sainte Chapelle and the Notre Dame. I did not enter either, just observed from the outside, but that was enough (my camera battery died, oops), they were both exquisite. The architecture of the buildings in France is so impressive and beautiful. I took Grant some lunch, I'm happy to say that he has his appetite back (for the last week he's hardly eaten anything, not like Grant at all). We haven't eaten much out here, yet, but we have had has been delicious.

Also, did you try Sgt. Recruiter's restaurant, or just stop in a small cafe in the latin qtr. for bread, cheese and wine. Try some Poulan(sp) bread for me, a round sour dough-great!!

You can walk up and down the river, and look at the artwork pieces they're selling, getting fresh crepes at the stands. Have you gone to the top of the Eiffle(sp) tower, or the D'Orse museum? Also, the Tour de France ends on this Saturday. tc
