We arrived in Broome just in time to head out to Cable Beach for sunset.  I was dying for a swim as the temperature had been in the mid 30s, with high humidity, so I handed my camera over to a pro (Pete our driver and guide, was also a photojournalist once upon a time), so credits for the beautiful sunset shots are all his.  After sunset, we washed up and headed out for yummy thai food and of course a few drinks to celebrate the end of our epic journey up the western coast of Australia.

I ran into Kirstin at the hostel, and we arranged to go see Spiderman 3 the next day.  Not only was it an action movie in a real cinema, but it would be air-conditioned.  I was psyched!  We had such a good time we decided to go see another movie later that day, but this time in the oldest outdoor cinema in the world.  We saw Woody Allen's Scoop, starring one of Australia's hottest actors (IMHO), Hugh Jackman.  It was particularly fun when noisy birds flew by or a plane went by overhead preparing to land on the runway, which was probably less than 2km away.

The other highlight of Broome was seeing the "Staircase to the Moon".  As luck would have it, I was in town on one of the nights when this could be seen.  You had to be in an east-facing bay at the time of sunset/moonrise with a full moon and a low tide.  The moon rose a brilliant orange colour, reflecting on the ripples of water of the departing tide, creating a linear, orange staircase effect.  It was really quite beautiful.  The following couple of nights were supposed to be even better, but sadly I was moving on...
