From For Christmas 2007 I gave my little sister a trip to Europe. Originally is was only going to be a 2- in Innsbruck, Austria on Jul 05 '08
We arrived in Innsbruck on the 6th of July. We took what was supposed to be an 8 trip from Florence, but turned out to be a little over 10 hours because we got stopped. The train ride started out nice but then after the ladies that we shared the cabin with left and the kids our age got on - holy bananas. The kids didn't stop talking, I mean I'm not joking for 7 hours they did not breathe. They were so loud and wouldn't stop. Meghan was dying I could tell, it was even bothering me and I didn't have a headache. The kids managed to talk through all of the conductors announcements which really pissed us off because we had no clue where we were going.
After we got off the train we literally ran to find food, gear and all. We hadn't eaten yet and it was now 19:00 and we woke up at 8:00. We sat down and scarfed our food, it took less than 5minutes to eat. Hahaha. We went back to the station to wait for Elisabeth. I was so excited but then as we got closer I got just a little bit nervous - what if she wasn't going to show. Well she did and she's great. We took a taxi to her place where she told us we were welcome to everything, she gave us a key and we chatted for a bit.
In the morning it was pouring rain and Meghan and I took full advantage of it and stayed in bed for some much needed rest until about 12:00. We pulled on our long sleeve shirts, and Meghan put on her coat, then we put on clear ponchos yes clear - we looked HOT!!! We rolled up our jeans and walked out the door in flip-flops. We found the grocery store right away but decided to walk for a while and come back later.
We walked and walked and eventually stumbled across what we believed to be the city center - we will never know if it actually was. But we meandered there for a while and on our way back to the grocery store, the same way we left, we got distracted by the HUGE slugs and snails - we stopped to take pictures! It started to pour hard and fast and we at last made it to the store. We bought stuff for dinner, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and breakfast again, plus a snack for the train, we even bought a treat and it cost 20€. Which is great!
We cooked tortellinis with pesto, peas, and bread! It tasted amazing and for the first time since we got her we were actually full. For breakfast we ate eggs, bread, and apples. We will make the rest of the food while we are here so we wont have to spend anymore money on food!
The Next day we got out at about 13:00. Meghan is totally sick, her tonsils are gross, huge, swollen, and pussing. My throat hurts hopefully it wont turn out like hers. We went to town, fingers crossed, and tried the famous Austrian dessert - a chocolate torte with apricot marmalade, which was okay, we also tried this lemon thingy that was amazing - it was like a nepolean with filo dough and that was delicious. Then we just wandered taking pictures of this and that. Later that night we went out with Elisabeth to a student bar and had a drink. I got a beer that was supposed to be bitter but wasn't at all in my opinion. Meghan got a banana split, and I'm not sure what Elisabeth got. I was going to pay for all of it and Elisabeth would have non of that, she insisted that she pay because we are young and on a tight budget and our money could be spent else where. Thanks Elisabeth!!
The last day we woke up went and got beautiful thank you flowers then came back packed and headed out for Zuerich.
