Today my friend Brittany and I went to the Boboli Gardens. They are located behind Palazzo Pitti on the opposite side of the river from the Center of Florence. Ponte Vecchio connects the city center with the street that runs right along Palazzo Pitti so at least it was easy to find!

We bought a museum pass at the beginning of the semester, so Brittany and I could get in for free, but I think the ticket for just the gardens costs something like 6 or 9 Euro. Anyway, there is also a museum inside Palazzo Pitti, but we didn't go into that part of the Palazzo just yet. The weather was gorgeous, so we wanted to see the gardens before it started raining later in the week.

So, when we first walked in there is this giant stair case that leads up to the main terrace of the gardens. However, there are a whole bunch of little paths all around the gardens that lead you to different places throught the scenery and some even took us to a look out point where we could see the city from above. There are hedges and statues all over the place, along with fountains and paths to guide you through the gardens. I assume that once the weather gets even warmer then the flowers will start to bloom and then these gardens will be really beautiful. Either way, it was still gorgeous when we went.

Inside the gardens there are even some small ponds, or I guess maybe just giant pools of water and also aqueducts that run through the mazes of trees and hedges and other plant life. I thought it was a great place to get away from the hectic city and relax for a little while. Even when there is a line, the gardens are so big that we easily found ourselves alone on a path with some peace and quiet. It was great!

Hopefully my pictures can do it justice, but if not then you'll have to go see it for yourselves! :) Enjoy!

The garden is beautiful and I would have loved to have heard the conversation about that intriguing statue. My best friend and her sister are traveling to Italy at the end of the week. You may cross paths and not even know it! Thanks for the beautiful pictures--I felt at peace as I "walked" the garden with you! Blessings, Sandi

Based on mom's comment above I suppose I should cancel that order for the portly naked man on a tortoise fountain for her mother's day garden present. Rats! I thought I had it all figured out... Glad to see you are having fun and if you didn't already hear - I will be writing you much more frequently (and to everyone else) because I have a new toshiba laptop in my possession! I love my tax preparer! Talk to you soon!

Karen - I love the gardens. So many olive trees which makes sense for where you are. But I am glad that I do not have a statue in my garden like that one....no ideas for Mother's day either! ;) Love the covered path....would make a great larger picture...hint, hint. Glad to see you having so much fun!! love Mom
