Wed, 6 Dec: Chinatown and Mr. Chan
From RTW in 2006: NZ, Aus, Singapore, Thailand & Xmas in England in Bangkok, Thailand on Dec 05 '06
6 Dec 2006
Uploaded 5 Dec pics at 7:00am.
Joined Teng for breakfast at 7:30am.
Once Lamyai, Linda and Deb joined us we discussed the plans for the remainder of our Thai trip. In summary:
1. Three day/two nite trip to Phuket (will fly there from Bangkok),
2. Four day/three nite trip to Chiang Mai,
3. Then return to Bangkok for four days to finish up any shopping. (As it turns out Teng is shipping a HUGE container
of goods for his store in Nashville, and has offered space in it for anything we might want to ship, which has got
us thinking...Not good!)
4. Deb and I will catch a cab to the airport at 9:30pm on 22 Dec to catch our 12:25am flight to the UK.
Todays Activities:
Toured with Linda (and our driver) only today, as Teng and Lamyai decided that our itinerary would require
too much walking for Lamyai's new knee.
Destinations:
1. Visit Temple of the Golden Buddha in Chinatown (Wat Traimit). Solid gold Buddha.
2. Walk around Bangkok's Chinatown
3. Wat Pho - Reclining Buddha
4. Flower Market
5. Lunch on the river
6. Visit National Museum
7. High tea at the Shangri La Hotel
Then met up with Teng and Lamyai at 6:15pm in the lobby of the hotel. They were just returning from
at two hour Thai massage. Cost: 120Baht/each. Definitely thinking about scheduling one of these for Deb and I before
we leave for the UK.
We then said good nite to Linda and our driver, and said hello to two friends of Tengs. All six of us
squeezed into a Mercedes sedan: two in front, and four in back. Off we went, but Deb and I had no idea where
we were headed, and the others spoke Thai on the 24minute trip, and didn't share their thoughts. We arrived
at a restaurant on the river, and had a fabulous meal. Thai, of course. Wow, the food is good here. Unfortunately,
we were eating outside which was ok until the rains set in, so the bill was paid by someone, and off we went again. And
again we didn't know the destination.
We arrive ten minutes later at a small restaurant with a live band. Not any ole band, but a band playing old
American and English 50's and 60's tunes, and they were GOOD. So we're all drinking wine, and singing along with
each new song. It was super. So unexpected.
Home by 10pm. Rinsed out clothes to help purge cigarette smoke, and lights out at 12:30am.
