Jet lag is a drag
From Island life in Okinawa, Japan on Sep 08 '06
September 10, 2006 9:20PM
Arrived in Okinawa at approximately 10:30 PM last night. After almost 24 hours of travelling (if you include the layovers). I was in a bit of a daze by the time I arrived at Naha Airport in Okinawa. As always though, it was great to see my parents and brother peering throught the glass and waving as I impatiently waited for my 100 lbs of luggage to appear. As I gazed out the window on the 45 minute car ride home, I had a bit of a "Lost in Translation" moment watching all of the lights and signs as we passed. A bit melancholy, dazed, and excited all at the same time...it was good to be home. At the same time, I don't feel as though I can rightfully call Okinawa my home as I have never really lived here. However, it is where my family is...and to me, that is where home is. For the next few weeks, I will try to provide some insight into Japanese culture and what island life is all about...
