First day on the road

Eleven hours in plane from San Francisco.  Be assured fellow travelers United Airlines is still serving warm dinners on international flights and they don't charge extra for the culinary experience.

Even the small things feel like an accomplishment when first in a new country.  I successfully changed money (is it 100 yen to 1 dollar or 1000?)  Oh well it's just money.  buying a train ticket from vending machines  with bowing icons.  and then meeting my host for this leg - Andy.  Andy graciously came to the train terminal at Narita and took me to his small apartment in Sakura (cherry blossom) a suburb of Tokyo.

We went out for dinner at the Japanese version of the tapas bar called an Izakiya.  Lots of small dishes everything from tempura to pickled eggplant and ginger and of course birru (beer).

Off today to see the city.
