- Today was a cruisy day. We headed into Florence early and by pure fluke we ended up parking right in the centre- for free (probably illegally but) and in amongst peak hr. About 100 meters away was our first stop. The Gallery where the original statue of David (Michelangelo). Pretty amazing- and huge. Some parts however not in proportion! We then headed up further in to the centre to see the Doumo. What a truly beautiful building- all made out of red, green and white stone/ marble. We walked towards a massive Piazza, which is the epiphany of what Italy is to us. All cobbled streets with high buildings all around with restaurants and tiny balconies. Lovely. In the middle were copies of very famous statues and also the fountain of Neptune. Again, as with all the ancient sculptures we’ve seen, brilliant and very well done. We browsed around the cute little allies and found a Pinocchio shop with everything wooden (as he originated in Florence). Wonderful stuff. It was time to head off as we drove on towards Rome. We stopped at a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the whole city of Florence. We arrived in Rome on dark and again had trouble with directions to camp. 3rd time lucky. All powered up warm and safe- looking forward to tomorrow.
