something about the office

I'd like to tell something about the R&D Center.

In my department there are working 9 engineers and the chef Mr. Jong Ock Kim. There are all really friendly. They have always a little smile on their faces, even when they are serios. This can be sometimes a little bit difficult, too, because you, as an european, can't see the little changes in their faces, when they get angry or uncertain. I don't know really what they think about me, because they allways keep friendly, too. But later more about the social things.

I sit here on a desk a little bit seperatly of my department. Around myself there are dividing walls, like you maybe know this from the american movies in this huge financial offices. The situation is nearly the same. The first day it was so strange and uncomfortable for me. But I adapted to this situation really fast.

Furthermore every morning a strange sound comes out of the audio system in the roof of the office. I think this is left by the military dictatorship time of Korea. It gives me the feeling of strong disciplin. It's every day the same song: "tschong tschag tschong tschak i eu hop eu hop!!" something like this. You can compare it with aerobic statements to a strengh song for the military.

I have to add: Now I know what the song is about. There is every morning a gymnastic exercise behind the building for the workers. It's funny.

In the cafetiria there's breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. And it's very cheap. Sometimes it's very good and sometimes very bad:) I really can't say what I have eaten there. Today I had "bibibab" (funny name for food) it looks like a salad with rise and a spicy souce mixed. As I had eaten something of it, my college asked me, if I ever had raw fish bevor... "It's like japan sushi", he said.

"hae, hae"...he was louthing.

What should I say. It tasted better I thought. It was raw tuna. I tried it to compare with our cooked tuna out of the small tins. But it tastes totally different and I even think better. You have to try it.

Today I get my schedule for the next 3 months. I was very surprized about it. Because I thought I will not have a lot of work. But they gave me a good filled task table. Let's see how it will be. But in my opinion the korean guys are really fit on work. If you see them for the first time, you wouldn't belief that. They are locking very young and it's very hard to estimate the age of them.

I go home.
