Jaisalmer- in the heart of the Thar desert

We set off from Bikaner at around 10 am after breakfast of cheese omlette and chai. Arrived in Jaisalmer at about 3pm. Driver kept on getting lost. We wanted him to take us to a few which sounded good in our rough guide but he wanted to take us to another one which he prob gets commission for. Found one which we thought sounded and also looked good called Shahi Palace. We bartered him down to 300 Rs which was good (about 2 quid each) but I had to insist to get that price. We got a medium sized room with shower/ attached bathroom with double bed which looks clean and bed seems comfy which is always a bonus. At the hotel they offered camel treks for 1300 Rs which is 1 overnight stay in the desert and 2 days with food and drinks (beer not included, much to Jamie's dissatisfaction!) and the photos of the sand dunes look amazing. After discussing with the driver about doing the 2 day safari he said that without us staying somewhere he is unable to have a place to stay and recommended that we venture out to Khuri because there are supposedly fewer tourists. We went to sunset point and the sunset was disappointing, we walked around the fort and there was lots of winding streets, just like the lanes in Brighton!
