Second game, Royals vs. White Sox

Nice drive through Kansas this morning.  We drove quite a bit last night so we only had a few hours to do today.  Kansas City is nice, it's pretty strange that the same city exists in two states separated by a river, but whatever.

We went to an awesome restaurant for lunch called Chappelle's, which had a ridiculous amount of sports memorabilia.  I don't think I can possibly explain how much crap was on the walls.  In fact he ran out of walls so there was literally stuff on the ceilings.  It was insane, he had some great stuff including all kinds of old jerseys (quite a few old A's jerseys - check out todays pictures to see).  The highlight for sure though was the actual 1973 World Series trophy.  The owner was good friends with Charlie Finley (The A's owner in 73) and was somehow able to get the trophy from Charlie.  Very cool place.

The game was also very fun.  It was another blowout as the Royals lost 11-3.  Things were going great for the Royals until the 5th inning when the White Sox scored 11 in one inning.  Kaufmann Stadium was cool.  The only real drawback about it is there is nothing else around, which reminded me a bit of the A's Coliseum.  No places to hang out around the stadium, but oh well.  Almost forgot about the inept beer vendors as well.  I have never seen anyone more inept at pouring beer.  I'm quite certain they wasted a whole keg of beer over the course of the game.  They could not figure out that if you shake beer and pour it fast you get foam.  While the beer vendors are inept the BBQ vendors are not.  I had a pork sandwich and Chris got a beef sandwich.  It was some of the best ballpark food either of us have had, quite delicious.

The great part about a Royals game is it's like going to a minor league game, but in the Majors.  They have tons of giveaways/games before the game and in between innings.  They quite literally shot hot dogs & t-shirts into the third deck of the stadium.  The craziest promotion had to be the ceremony before the game though.  Right before the National Anthem they had about 15 kids inducted into the Army.  They literally came out to home plate, and took the oath to go into the Army at the game.  That was kind of a surreal experience at a baseball game.

Again, more A's jersery's

Off to St Louis tomorrow.  Hopefully Chris and I won't get drafted into the Marines at a Cardinals game.

Sounds like you boys are having a great time! Tell Chris that he can spend Xmas with my family.
