That Mountain is Going to Blow!

Arriving in Naples, it took me a good hour’s trek before I found the hostel, perched atop a bloody great big hill! I was bunked in with a Ghanian fellow and a Croatian chap. As it was evening we decided to hit the town in the hope of finding a decent meal. That we found, but then my two new found friends were more interested in meeting local ladies. I am talking about the ladies who won’t talk to you unless you pay them! I wasn’t too keen so I had a quick wander about the streets. It didn’t feel like the safest city on Earth so I bailed out and headed on back to Castle Hostel. My friends never returned.

The next day I did my usual – wander around the streets checking out the sights. I liked Naples, it seemed to have a lot of character, and the looming Mt Vesuvius added to the atmosphere. I wasn’t too impressed with my first pizza experience though – doughy and bland. I was sure the food would get better.

Unfortunately there was a city wide strike and i couldn't get out

I had always longed to visit Pompei and Herculaneum and one day I planned to catch the train to the sites. Unfortunately, there was a city wide rail strike and I couldn’t get out. Feeling very disappointed and low I spat the dummy and caught a train out of Naples to Rome. I plan on being back in Italy someday and Pompei is still on my list of things to see.
