Ok so we've unloaded all our stuff off the bus and all piled into the Viscount Cultural Centre. We had a greeting party of sorts and a local Pianist Remi Bouchard wrote and played a song for us on the piano. We all had a pot luck dinner and met our Host families. Murray and Donna Newton are Rohana and my family. They have around 2100 acres of land and have a few barns holding roughly 900 pigs. Murray took us on a tour of the barn. Nothing new to me but Rohana seemed pretty pleased and disgusted at the same time. The smell is pretty powerful in there. So I think Rohana and I will have a good time here. They have also had 9 Rotary exchange students through their house so I'm sure there will be some stories arise from that. Also it is nice to know that they are familiar with homesickness and foreign people and know how to handle certain situatuions regarding those realities. Thursday we met at the VCC to determine what out EAD"s topics were going to be. Rohana and I picked Environment as our first choice and low and behold we got it. We are the last group to do the EAD so we have plenty of time to think about what we'll do. Friday we went around town touring our work placements, much like katimavik. In no particular order they are: Budz-n-Blooms daycare, a preschool, the VCC, Acess TV, Hand, The Sally Anne, an Elementary School, The Town of Neepawa, and Eastview Lodge. Saturday we had two foreign exchange girls over for the weekend. Paola was from Argentina, and Rika was from Poland. They are just stopping by for two days while en route to their host houses in Dauphin and Calgary. Sunday Rohana, Murray and I went to Lake Irwin to test drive a motor that Murray and a few friends were going to use this coming week to go Moose hunting. All went well except for the wet ride back up-wind due to the damned waves.
The smell is pretty powerful in there.
