Bring on the Gaudi

From Whirlwind Trip of Europe in Barcelona, Spain on Mar 19 '07

Today we woke up to the beautiful sunshine of Barcelona.  The windows are beautiful and the building we are staying in was built in 1907 and has so much character.  So, we decided to brave the lunch room which we knew would be filled because there were soooo many groups of students.

Our day started with a small walk to the Guell Park.  It is where Antoni Gaudi has a lot of his work.  He enjoyed using nature as his design ideas for his architecture.  I absolutely love everything that he has done.  It is so modern and beautiful.  His mosaic benches that wind all around cannot be described in words.  The pictures will do the talking.  We ended up spending about 3 or so hours in the forested park with a visit to the Gaudi Museum which was his house and also the gift shops which is covered in beautiful bright tiles of many colors.  We walked down to the metro so that we could get to La Sagrada Familia.

This is Gaudi´s most impressive and wellknown piece of work.  He did not get to see it finished as it will still be in the works until 2022 or something.... close to that.  No one knows if it will ever be finished.  It literally takes your breathaway.  It is the most unique piece of architecture.  With the type of stone used and they nature aspect of each pillar and each part of the cieling.  Bern and I found that we lost track of time because we were so mesmerized by its grandeur and beauty.  So, almost 4 hours later we went outside and headed over to a park to have a bite to eat.

Today was a beautiful day filled with Gaudi and I think I even convirted Bernadette into a Gaudi fan because she loved it and she bought two books about him and his architecture.

More books? You will have to send home some packages in the mail to lighten the load. Souveniers are nice to have though.
