Dec. 16 (Monteverde Cloudforest)

We took a shuttle bus to the Monteverde Cloudforest which lasted approximately 4 hrs. The first two hours consisted of windy roads but were not bad at all. The last two hours were tough. Bump after bump....hole after hole...it was a very, very, very turbulent ride. However, the ride was well worth it. Perhaps the most beautiful area in Costa Rica awaited us. Monteverde was founded about 40 years ago by a small group of conservation-minded Quakers who were looking for a peaceful place to live. Its Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the most outstanding wild life sanctuaries in the tropics. This high elevation rain forest offers miles of trails with excellent opportunities for bird watching.

Dec. 17 (Sky Trek @ Monteverde)

We weren't sure exactly what a "Sky Trek" was but we found out rather quickly. Sky Trek allows you to observe and appreciate tropical forests from different vantage points. A suspended bridge 300 feet long and 66 feet high, gave us the best view of the inner forest. Besides, there was also a panoramic view (360º) of the Guanacaste, San Carlos and Puntarenas lowlands. Four transversal cables 63 feet and 713 feet long run along the tree tops two inside, two outside. The hole system is integrated by a path 7000 feet long.
