Que Bonito

Getting in the truck yesterday made me feel free. We set off yesterday for Chiapas. It took 13 hours to finally reach our destination in this hidden jungle. At first it was nothing new for me.The road we were traveling down was the same road I took with chico to Barra De La Cruz. As we past some nostalga hit me. I wanted to turn down the dusty path and find its heavenly shores waiting for me to bask in the sun and to catch the perfect right waves that come through on a big swell. About one hour past Barra we came to Salina Cruz. This city is windier than Boston. The Tehuantepec Gulf produces a gust that makes the beaches unbarable and forgotten. As we climbed in altitude, I could see a stretch of beach about five miles with white sand and blue water. I thought to my self what a waste they can not even enjoy it with these winds. We decided to jump out an take a pickture. The water was swirling with 100 different colors of blue. After about four more hours we entered the state of Chiapas. Immediately I noticed a change. It was like another country with very ethinic costumes. Tuxsla was the first city we entered. It is the capital of chiapas. What surprised me was its size and moderness. I decided to put the cd that laila made for me. I tried to listen to it in Las Vegas, but after the third song i decided it was not the right time and i would save it for when i needed it. Today was the day.Song #6 Say hello and Wave Goodbye. I think it was Van Morrison or Bob Dylan. I dont know but it made me want to cry. The sweet melody of the guitar and the longing of a live voice.I sang softly in harmony with every word even though i had never heard the song before.. Exiiting Tuxsla, there is Canyon Sumidero. In order to see it you have to take a boat. We will do this tour on our way back. As we start ascending the temperature went from 100 to 59degrees. We started seeing pine trees, i could not believe it i was back in california. The funny thing is the roads are built on the mountain ridges. SO each way you look you could see for hundereds of miles. Just as i was thinking this song # 11 came on (I think it is Jimmy Hendrix or maybe Tajmahal live). There were beautiful gospel women singing in the back . I laughed to myself as i knew this cd would come in handy. Thanks Laila. I felt like a bird on that mountain ridge. Souring high above chiapas and all the way home. I stuck my head out the window to feel the cool breeze. All of the women on the roads looked predominantly Myan. As we entered the mountainous colonial town of San Cristobal I felt a rich feeling of culture and history drifting about. We will stay here on the way back. It did not feel as though i was heading towards a jungle.. I felt like i was already in Peru. It was such a beautiful sight to see with the sun setting behind us. Everyone was going home from work, by foot or by bike. I could not believe my eyes. They were walking in the dark on these crazy roads. We almost hit some of them. As soon as the pine trees came, they were gone. My first jungle. How beautiful it is here. We found some bungalows close to the ruins for $30 per night. I cant wait to show you the pictures.. I fell asleep listening to the rain and the animals. What an existance.. Today we went to the ruins but that will have to be in my next entry. I love this place.
