this place, swaziland backpackers, is not very conveniently located. i'm glad i bought some bread and soup at the grocery on the way here, since there's nowhere to eat or get food. the city of manzini is a few miles away, the main center of swaziland. swaziland is a kingdom that was never part of south africa, either for the afrikaners or the british, and retains its own identity today. it also borders mozambique. north of here, back into south africa, is the famous kruger national park. it is unfortunate that i do not have enough time to go on any wildlife treks or anything like that to see the wilderness and animals. the drive here from johannesburg was pretty. the land ranged from grass covered plains, to low hills with scrub brush, to agricultural areas of corn and wheat fields. it's winter so nothing is growing now, though. there's really not much to tell as all i did was look out the window of the bus all day, crossing the border right at sunset, and getting a room at this place. it's freezing cold and there are no heaters at all, so that's annoying. tomorrow i head back into south africa (i'll only be in this whole country for about 16 hours).
