On this day we finally made it back to Reykjavik and enjoyed the city.  It was a relief to return our rental car - the check oil light had been flashing on and off all day (though we checked the oil three times and it was fine) and the engine started to tick so we really wanted to be done with it before it crapped out.  Plus, Reykjavik is a fun place to be!  For being their largest city, the city center is actually very condensed and many attractions are within easy walking distance of each other.  The highlights of what we did:  ate lunch at a Danish open-faced sandwich shop.  I got an excellent salmon sandwich - probably the most expensive bites of sandwich in my life, but worth it.  Even more fun (and more expensive) was dinner at Caruso, a beautiful restaurant.  Each dish was art!  We both got fish there - I got plaice, some type of bottom feeder fish like halibut.  Just as good too!  For dessert I got a magnificent chocolate lava cake creation that came on a very long plate.  We also spent the day shopping, visited a really neat church where we got to hear the organ played, and repacked our bags for the next day!

I'd definitely try to see the organ being played at the church (although it is pretty enough to visit even if you don't get to hear the organ). The Blue Lagoon is another really fun place to spend the afternoon relaxing, although you will need a rental car/cab or something to get there as it is not in walking distance from town center.

Thanks! I have a day planned at the Blue Lagoon, after a week in the North Fishing, looks amazing! Sounds like you had a great trip.
