A chilly Dalat...
From South East Asia - A Trip Long Due in Da Lat, Vietnam on Dec 02 '06
We arrived in the mountaneous town of Dalat. This town is nestled at 3000Km in the Vietnamese central Highlands. The journey took 11 hours from Saigon, winding up meandering mountain roads past paddy fields, waterfalls and sheer cliff faces. It was impossible to sleep on these bumpy rods never mind the constant beeping of the horn by the driver. At one stage we decided to count how many times he did it in a half hour - can get very boring on these trips you know - after 10 minutes we reached infinity!
The temperature here was much cooler than anywhere else we had been on the trip. Most of the locals wore wooly hats and thick jackets while laughing at the bus load of short and t-shirt clad foreigners disembark. But the cold (or cool by Swedish standards) weather was worth it for the amazing scenery. The main town sits by the a lake adjacent to mountain peak. We took some great photos to show you guys.. BUT unfortunately our camera was stolen from one of the restraunts. Major bummer! :(
A chilly Dalat...
On the bright side it could have been worse, somehow.. Also, we met a new Vietnamese friend by the name of Thao. While sitting on the motorbike at the side of the road with a map bigger than the two of use looking for the right way to one of the waterfalls she spotted we were lost - don't know what gave that one away!? She brought us to some tea plantations in the mountains. Young kids sat at tables packing the tea we drink at home. Really cool to see. On first glance it looked it was some kind of marijuana processing plant, but tea is still exciting!
Later that night we had dinner with Thao who shared some of her feelings living in Vietnam. That was very interesting. She also presented us both with gifts. Two lovely woolen scarfs that her mum makes and sells to the stores in the town.
All in all it was worth the trip here, the memories and pictures we will just have to keep in our minds!
Hugs E&K
