We picked up the car the following day and headed straight up north. Loch Lomond (about 45min out of Glasgow) is absolutely beautiful, and we knew we were in for some stunning scenery after that. After a lazy driving day we arrived at out campsite about 20min outside Fort William. We set up camp and had a lovely vegie burger supper, with a beautiful loch in front of us and mountains behind that (absolutely gorgeous view – check the photos). As the sun was setting we headed of to find a pub, but all we managed to find was a very posh hotel. Didn’t matter as it still had an awesome view of the sunset. I was starting to realise that Scotland is absolutely beautiful.

Got up at about 5.30 on Thursday, quickly broke down camp and headed straight for our second conquest of the holiday, Ben Nevis. We managed to climb the 1350meters in about 6 hours (up & down) and, even though it was pretty misty on the top, on the way up and down we got some (more) amazing photos. Once at the bottom we drove the road to the Isles, which is from Fort William to Mallaig. Another stunning road. At Mallaig we caught a ferry to the Isle of Skye, were the population and civilization in general all of a sudden dwindled down to a very small amount. We arrived on Skye at about 18:30, so we were getting rather desperate for a place to lay our heads for the night. Imagine our relief when we finally found a campsite. Boy were we in for a surprise. While setting up camp we had our first taste of something I’d only heard about. Midges. For those of you who don’t know, imagine a painful mosquito bite. Now imagine about a thousand of them. We quickly set up camp and got the hell out of there, heading for the first pub we found, and waited for the sun to set, hoping they would disappear. At about 10 we ventured back to the tent and quickly went to bed, with towels over our heads. Luckily they didn’t manage to penetrate the tent, so after a rather manic day we got some pretty good sleep!
