To the Market

From Pana, we took a shuttle to Chichicastenango.  We thought learning to say Panachajel was hard, Chichicastenango is even harder! This is where the BIG market that Mayan locals go to sell their goods every thursday and sunday.  It was to be our photo opportunity with all the Mayan colors and excited to see what the locals would sell.

Photo Op!

The market didn't disappoint us.  Though it had many of the same thing as we saw in Pana, it was just so much more festive.  The market was filled with indigenous Mayans.  Not only were the tourists shopping but so where the locals.  The merchants came with their chickens and pigs to be sold.  They also sold a variety of beans, chliis and other vegetables. The tourists were buying the brightly color tapestries, jewelery, and masks.

I am pretty much a minimalists these days and got back to Pana without any souvenirs but I got my cool pics to keep me happy.

Once again for this journal, a picture is worth a thousand words.. so check out my photos in the photo gallery.
