market madness
From In the beginning... in Chiang Rai, Thailand on Jun 21 '06
We arrived for a quick over night stop in Chiang rai, after three hours of asian karaoke on a surprisingly pleasant local bus we were swept into a sweet little guesthouse(as always in asia "swept" always seems to be the most apt term and the notion is pretty much unavoidable) where we plonked down our gear and headed out to check out the local night market. The market was amazing with food of all vaieties being barbequed or fried, endless reems of unidentifiable objects that i could only assume were part of the local fruit and veg reportiore and other delicacies that we thought it best we looked without touching(fried bugs...not really my thing). The restaurants were pricey(by this I mean meals were 3 or 4 pounds- but its all reletive here with our current accomodation costing us 50p each a night!) so we grabbed a massive barbequed fish and some meat kebabs at the market(for a satisfactory 60p each!) and sat around absorbing the new surrounding culture. This was pretty much all Chiang Rai had to offer but nevertheless I'm glad we called in.
