Was up early this morning to catch the train to St. Gallen. Missed the 9:46 train because the computer was being stupid. Got to St. Gallen at 12:30ish and headed off to get some lunch. Had a picnic lunch of cheese, ham, plums, and yogurt. After lunch we went to an amazing chapel and library that had books that were thousands of years old. They also had an Egyptian mummy and sarcophagus that had been donated to the library. We had to wear special shoes that slid around on the intricate wood floor. Outside the chapel was a little square where we sat a while and people watched. We moseyed around town for a bit before heading to Tuefen to Caroline's cousins house. She is so sweet! Her husband took Cheryl and I up to Appenzeller. It is what Switzerland is when you think of it. Green pastures, cows with bells around their necks, traditional half timbered houses with bright cleared shutters. WE wandered among picturesque streets to a coffee shop for something hot to drink. Hubert took us to a museum where there were pictures of the traditions still kept alive there. On the way back to the house we stopped at a cheese factory, but unfortunately they had stooped making cheese for the day, so we watched a movie on how it is made and bought some to take home. For dinner we had rosti and bratwurst with salad and onion sauce, followed by some cheese and crackers, and then strawberries and ice cream. So good!! Tomorrow is Interlaken!!
