Vientiane
From Southeast Asia Summer 2006 in Vientiane, Laos on Jul 25 '06
We woke up and walked around a bit, looked round the main Wat of the city- Wat Si Saket and then went to book our flights to Hanoi. We also went to look at the Phat That Luang which is the most important national monument of Laos- a 45m golden stupa and saw the Patuxai (Laos very own Arc de Triomphe) which we climbed and had great views of the city. We went to the market and walked along the river front before having some lovely satay chicken in a little cafe. There isn't much to do here and it doesn't quite have the charm of the rest of Laos we have seen so far but still, everyone is very friendly and the pace of life is very relaxed.
