Bordeaux, Closed Due To Something?
From First Week In England in Bordeaux, France on Jul 07 '06
So we are now in Bordeaux.
I have waited a long time to come down to wine country, and what a trip from the north it was. We had to cathc two buses and I think three different trains, all of whcih fro some reason or another did not beleive in AC, this made it so freaking long. We did manage to sleep in first class for a around 2 hours before th guy checked our tickets though so we were pretty happy about that. When we arrived in Bordeqx it looked like another big city that hasnt really been kept u well and is being poorly developed and then we got to our hotel. The area of town is great that we are in but we for sure seen worse. It is very nice to have a hotel room all to our own especially with AC but we are missing the chance of meeting more people. Everything was pretty much closed when we arrived so we got some bread and accompaniments and had some dinner. The next daym yesterday, was Sunday and we decided it would be best to go to a Vineyard. After barely making the bus up to a tiny town just out of Brodeaux, we were in true wine country. The town was surrounded by vine after vine of beautiful countryside. We rented bikes grabed a bite to eat and then set off to the next town to visit a vineyard estate. After having one of the best bike rides in my life, we arrived at the Vineyard only to be greated at the entrance to the drivway by the owner saying it was not open. So being very dissapointed we headed back to town, or the one we biked from and went to see another winery in town. It was a very commercial looking house when we got there and it was right in town so you couldnt go see the back where the grapes were. They did have an amazing cellar though. It was 12 metres under ground and they just had loads and loads of bottles of wine. Some of the wine was from 2003 and the oldest was from 1967. This was really interesting and I am fairly sure the only rival cellar could be mine when I achieve a certain level of income, fairly soon ofcourse. After this we had done a lot of biking and though we would return the bikes, so we bought some 1993 and 1994 for 10 euros each and set off walking around town until the bus came to take us back to Bordeaux. We had a great time waiting as we went to sit at an outside restaurant had a very nice bottle of cold Rose and then a cafe or expresso afterwards. Nothing better!! Ofcourse yesterday was the world cup and well we dont like to talk about it over here but after being in Paris for the last two big wins for France, it was surreal how dead the streets were last night, very dissapointing but none the less. Today we thought the city would bve open early and so we got up and walking around realized that nothing was open! It wasnt until aorund 1130 or 12 that stuff kinda started to open so that is why I am here wrting this at 115pm. That and the heat was getting to the three of us. After tomoroow we dont know where we are going but we think we may try and find a place in San Sabastien in Spain and then we have a reservation in Madrid on the 11 for a few and finally we are hoping to go to Barcelona then Valencia for the 5 day beach party? But we dont really have any idea if this will actually go down. Again thanks for all the comments on this website and we are all loving the emails whenever we can find internet, check out the pics in the last few entries not just this one!
