One last swim in the pool then we set off to Lake Arenal and the volcano. Arrived at Chalet Nicholas at lunchtime and were greeted by five great danes! It was a really nice B&B with views across the lake and hummingbirds outside our window. The weather was very different to the beach.

& scary things in shoes!

We went into town for a coffee. Damian sat down and felt something stirring in his shoe. He handed the shoe to Jess as he was too scared to look. It turned out to be a BIG scorpion that Jess had to fish out. IT WAS HUGE, look at the photo! Must make a mental note to check shoes in the future before we put them on!

Fantastic breakfast by Catherine at the B&B, fresh fruit and omelette. Went out to the volcano. Came across a whole family of Coatis on the way, they are really cute. Seemed like we had bought the english weather with us. Poor weather stopped us seeing the full views of the volcano, but we could hear it rumbling away. Climbed over the volcanic rocks from the most recent eruption in 1992. Did a nice trail and had a brief glimpse of a toucan. Unfortunately we got soaked on the way back. Returned to Arenal for mass and tea.

Headed to Alejuala to catch the flight the next day to Guatemala.
