We stopped for some gas right after visiting the falls and then we proceeded to drive through the town of Keshena. The funny thing about driving through Keshena is that I saw the Menominee Casino up ahead. Knowing my mother like I do I mentioned to Alex, "I bet you 10 bucks we're going to stop at the casino". Sure enough Mike flipped on his turn signal and we they were heading into the casino parking lot.

Alex has never been to a casino before, I have once with my mom. I remembered how easy it was to lose all your money real fast and Alex got a lesson too. We lost all our money real fast. We played on the slots for a time and then met my mom back at the bar and Alex started playing the video poker, he was doing better at the poker than we were doing on the slots but our money didn't last too long there either. I was just bad at everything. Lucky for us we didn't spend much there, we put a limit on what we were spending up front and it was all coming out of my birthday money anyway so I wasn't upset to lose. I'm scared to ask how much my mom and Mike spent (and lost). I know Mike put something like $20 into a crazy $5 slot machine right before we left.

Alex commented on how they set up the casino in a way that makes it easy for you to lose money really fast, notably using credits instead of actual money. He's absolutely right, at some point you sort of forget that you're playing with money that you actually spent. The other thing it's not quite obvious how to "change out" your cash once you put it in the machine. I think Mike was under the impression that once you put it in there you can't get it back (that's why he spent $20 on the $5 slot instead of spending the $5 and cashing out the extra $15 with a ticket). It's a clever ploy to get you to spend more, I would have to say that it works well in their advantage.
