Windy Durban
From Around the world in Durban, South Africa on Oct 25 '08
Hey everyone,
I'm switching to English for a few posts to suit my international readers. But don't worry, I haven't forgotten my Dutch fanbase ;)
Driving into Durban from the Drakensberg area meant getting used to a "big" city again. And what a city Durban is. It really looks like city planners have absolutely nothing to do in Durban, because the city pretty much looks like it was built as it came. So there's new buildings, old buildings, industry, etc. all mixed together. But hey, you got the beach nearby so who's complaining?
It was REALLY windy the one night I was there -- Durban is a night stop for the Baz Bus so I really had no choice but to stay over for a night. But it was quite impressive to see the big waves at the beach. I like water. Especially when it's big and loud.
We got to the Happy Hippo hostel around 4pm, so just a few hours to look around, get some food, and sleep. Well, actually I ended up hanging out at the rooftop bar at the hostel till midnight with a bunch of Ozzies and English people, which was a lot of fun. Then getting up early again since the Baz Bus was to arrive around 7:30. Hmpf, it was late, I waited for an hour, which would have been a very welcome extra hour of sleep considering the night before at the bar...
Bound for Zululand! Next stop: St. Lucia.
