Went to Liechtenstein, via Lake Constance (bodensee), into the main town of Vaduz. Walked through a lot of tourist shops before the Stamp Museum opened. Cool little museum. Stacks of stamps of course and a movie about how they are made and the industry. Lots of historic postal paraphernalia. Saw an odd art show upstairs from this. We drove around the town and visited city’s schloss. Funny to imagine there being a king and queen of such a tiny kingdom.
Back into Switzerland. Destination target was Klosters-Davos up in the mountains. As we left Liechtenstein though we decided there was no point to go higher as it was too cloudy and rainy. So we headed for St Gallen.

Visited the town’s abbey, and the beautiful Library. The church was stunning. Fairly simple outside but then amazing inside. Someone was playing the organ while we were there - wonderful stuff. The Library is an incredible place – completely lined with elegant bookshelves holding ancient books and has a gorgeous parquet floor. There is an Egyptian mummy on display as well as a number of cases displaying some of the more interesting books. It was fascinating with a commentary about the secret codes that could be found there, how they would scrape words off and reuse the paper – but of course these days historians area more interested in the older documents etc. Excellent. Returned home and after all those secret messages we had to watch National Treasure for our movie night. Michael much better today.
