I turned 40. Champagne breakfast and presents with wonderful homemade cards in bed. Then I had time out and read before hopping up to face the day as an oldie. Gael popped over. He told us that our delicious pink champagne is actually Cerdon – an aperitif or dessert sparkling wine – no wonder I liked it so much.

We travelled to Geneva. It was a chilly day. The old town there is beautiful. We had lunch (perfect) and did some shopping. Saw Rousseau, the jet d’eau, and met some British people (now living in Portugal) who needed directions – hope the ones we found on the GPS got them to the right place before they had to leave for the airport. If we get to Portugal we will catch up with them for dinner.

As we drove home it began to rain and then the drops turned white and it was snowing. Of course we had to stop so the kids could hop out and catch it. We also saw a deer and a rabbit on the way home. We had a birthday tea with birthday cake from home (Thanks Mum) and stacks of sparklers.

It was an unforgettable day. Wish maturity came as surely as the increasing numbers.
