Sari organized a short day trip South to visit her Grandmother in the large Port town of Kotva. Her very warm and hospitable Grandmother had warm traditional rice porridge and plum sauce, cookies, breakfast rolls, and coffee awaiting us after a short 40 minute drive. After hearing about the history of Sari's Mothers side of the family we took a nice walk along the park shore area just outside downtown.
The small bay area was surrounded by empty boat slips and frozen sections of salt water. Due to the very cold climate most of the trees and plants were in hibernation but I was still able to find the beauty of it all in the middle of winter. Most of the downtown section still has the remains of cobblestone streets from as far back as the early 19th century. Also an Old 19th century Orthodox Church still remains in excellent condition especially after surviving the Crimean War of (1853-56), it is believed to be designed by architect Yakov Perini who also designed the St. Petersberg Admiralty.

The day visit ended with a visit to the local Aquarium and a nice Lunch Buffet along the waterfront.
