Four days of blur in Barcelona!
From Well this is potentially the most randon trip ever planned out! It has absolutly zero plan to in Barcelona, Spain on Jul 04 '07
First of all I´d like to start off by saying... holy Barcelona has got to be one of the craziest cities on earth! These guys really know how to party, I mean everything in the whole city closes down so they can legally take a four nap everyday from 1pm til 5pm (called siesta). That way they can party all night!
Alright Barcelona... what a ride here we go!
First off ras and I got to Barcelona and it was time to start the hostel hunt. I had been trying to find the hostel in my map the entire way there but when we got there and looked at another map, we realised that it was completely off our map! So we hopped ont he metro for about half an hour before it was finally our stop! Once we got there we realised that our hostel was on top of a mountain and that it was time to put on our hiking boots cause there was no easy way to do this! After a long a swaety 20 or so minutes hike with our backpacks on we found our hostel and checked our emails to find that our awesome friends from cananda Crysal, Lindsay, and Amanada (which we met in Nice) were also in Barcelona at the same time and that they wanted to meet up with us right away! So we got our room changed our sweaty clothes and hopped right back on the metro down to La Ramba. La Ramba is the main street in Barcelona... and at night they say its the scariest street in all of Europe! At night it´s the place your most likely to get pickpocketed, robbed and grabbed by a prostitute while some other guy is selling crack all at the same time! But in the daytime it´s a bustling street filled with Street Performers, Artists, and Markets where you can buy anything from a Pigs entire head, to live chickens and rabbits, to an apple! Literally anything you can imagine... thye have it!! FInally we found our friends on La ramba and they greated us with open arms and a couple open cases of beer! So we headed to one of the Barcelona Squares and just enjoyed Cervasas while we sat on a fountain! This wasnt any normal fountain though... we dubbed it the radioactive ninja turtle fountain cause honestly the water in it was sooo green that it had to have been what turned the turtles into ninja turtles!! After we wasted another day (its hardly a waste though when your in Barcelona) away catching up with friends we decided we should head out for another night of awesome tapas and Sangria! By the time we were done there we were exuasted as it was about midnight so Ras and I figured we would just catch the metro home and meet them in the morning! Little did we know that apparently the metro stops running at 11:30pm and that was the only way we knew how to get home!! We had heard from our hostel though that we could catch the number four night bus back to our hostel... so we hopped on that to quickly learn that not a single bus driver in Spain speaks a word of english... and that we have no idea which stop is ours! So we ended up just riding the bus until we saw something familiar. The worst part was, we didnt reconise a single thing until about an hour on the bus later and when we did we realised that what we had reconised when we got off was actually La Ramba and we were right back were we started!!!! So we had to survive the next 3 hours (until the metro started up again) on the scariest street in all of europe with no knowlege of the city at all! It actually turned out to be quite enjoyable though we just sat on a bench on the side of Rambas and took in all the messed up and crazy people passing by us and just laughed it up! We must have looked local cause not a single person bothered us at all! We finaly got back to our hostel though around 5:30am and were quite ready for bed, when we realised our hostel had a curfew until 6 and we had another half hour to hang out on the streets! FINALLY we got to bed around 6:30 (the lady to open the gate must of slept in) and it was time for some well deserved rest!
The next day we were set to meet Crystal and Lindsay and Amanda at noon at the same place as the day before but we completely slept in and missed them after our eventful night the previous night. So it was just ras and I! We didnt wake up until around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and figured all we could really get done was just to go lay on the beach and enjoy the sun again! (which have absoltuly no problems at all with, it is holidays after all) When we got back form the beach the girls had emailed us again wanted to meet us again for a night out on the town... but by the time ras and I had gotten ready we had completely lost track of time and when we finally got to Rambas we had completely missed them by about a half hour! We were absoltlly devestated but figure a night off was probably the best thing after our previous night so we hopped back on the metro and headed home. We finally got to our stop and were about to get out of the train when we noticed that there was a group of about 8 people from our hostel standing there... extremely intoxicated! They informed us that they were heading to a reggea club and insisted on us coming! So we did just that! They bacially poured the rest of their alcohol down our throats and told us that it was going to be a long night so to get ready! After about an hour of searching we finally found this place and man it didnt disspoint one little bit! This place was sooo freaking cool... it was actually basically a live reggea concert downstairs with a dude singing to the beats... but then the ultimate mind blower came! It turned out it was Drum and Bass vs. Reggea club... So the upstairs of the club had a live Dj rocking out all night and you could just choose whatever you were in the mood for at the time! SO much fun... inface we completely lost track of time and again... didnt get home until 8 am!!
Our thrid day in Barcelona was again a complete right off until the night but this time we did manage to see the one main site that there is to see in Barcelona! Its a massive cathedral called the Gaudi chruch! I dont think its physically possible for me to put this thing into words so you should definately look up pictures of it on google. But to put it in perspective they have been building this sucker since 1883 and its still not even half done! And to make things even crazier all of the blueprints got blown to pieces in the war so they are building this entire bohemoth of a cathedral using only a miniature model that Gaudi made before he died! SO insane!! The final best detail Ive heard about it though is that apparently Gaudi was a crazy opium head and designed the entire thing on one of his binges... and it totally makes sense once youve heard that cause the entire back wall of the church is literally melting from the roff to the ground! You gotta see it go look it up! We also looked around for another couple of his buildings around Barcelona but none of then were even close to his chruch! The third night was when things started to get really hectic though and we dont have much recolection of the night but Im going to make a solid attempt at it. Well it started off with ras and I deciding it would be a god idea for a pub crawl that night to get a better idea of the Barcelona night life! So we pre drank a little bit over dinner then headed down to meet Crystal Lindsay and Amanda... but again to our demise we were having too much fun drinking and completely missed them by another half hour, so we just headed straight to the first bar. Now this is where things get blurry so Im just going to tell what people have told me. Alright in the first bar they gave a free sangris a free beer and a free shot then we met a guy from Amsterdam who gave us another free shot. The best part about this pub crawl though was that they had a Super soaker that was completely filled with vodka and if you had your mouth open they would shoot you with it... now we must have had our mouths open alot cause the next thing we remember wa about 3 bars later when ras met a really awesome Danish girl! She was pretty cool I suppose but I cant recall to be honest! Anyways the next solid memory I have was when we ended up in this MASSIVE club at the end of the pub crawl... we got soooo lucky cause we met Crystal (my new mom) and Lindsay and Amanda there. It was a good thing we met them cause apparently later in the night I had my shoes and shorts off and I was going for a swim in the barcelona harbor. Thank god for Crystal haha! saved my life! Anyways we woke up the next morning in their hostel and in our own beds there cause they had given us their beds! What awesome girls! So the next morning they nursed us back ot health then informed us that they had no hostel for the night. SO we took them on the long trek up the mountain to our hostel and it just so happened there was room there for them! phew! After that hike again in the 35 degree wheather (hard knock life I know) it was time to beach it! We just layed there allllllllllll day enjoying nice cold cervesas and the ocean! Definately a place a could get used to! We even made up an awesome game called beached whale, which is pretty much self explanitory, you float in the water and let the tide beach you on the sand! After about 8 hours in the sun and playing in the water we finally enjoyed our last Barcelonain Cervesa while we sat on the beach and let the tide come into us! it was sooo relaxing a nice end to Barcelona cause we all finally took a night off that night and got some well deserved rest!
Woo hoo for adventures!!!!
Lots of love Adam and ras!
