(Nicks Story).

I must admit that I am enjoying being on 'holiday' in Dahab.  We got lucky in finding a great hotel with tourists from Poland, Holland and Germany and have enjoyed relaxing in a nice room with a/c and a tv (only two channels that we can understand).  I slept for a day or two, the result of a long hard stretch through Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Qatar but am starting to feel human again.

We're having a holiday!!

Next stop is St Catherines on Monday, April 30th and a slow trip back to Cairo later in the week.  Flight booked to Morocco on May 7th and then the end of Africa on May 24th.

(Ronnie's Story)

Cairo was very hectic place to visit...with a population of only 31 million and horns honking every millisecond. We had a day walking around the city where crossing the street proved to be my biggest challenge...forget about crosswalks, signals, or even lanes and the cars don't use their lights at night!. It really was like a game of frogger... at one point some lovely Muslim women helped me cross a 6 "lane" highway. I stood in the middle holding each or their hands... it gave them a giggle and me a safe crossing.

The next day we woke up and decided to travel by bus to Dahab for some diving in the Red Sea. The mummies and pyramids would have to wait... for now. It was a long 11 hour journey by bus in comparable luxury... good roads, air con and five seats to stretch out on.

Dahab was a great surprise! It has a strange beauty... the Red Sea surrounded by mountains and sand with the random camel trotting by. The place is so much more developed then anywhere else we have visited in Africa. Dahab has lots of outdoor restaurants and cafes (with average food) where you sit on cushions looking out on the Red Sea. On clear days there are views of Saudi Arabia on the horizon.

It is also a strange place with tons of stray cats (which tend to get aggressive with your food), flies and smokers. There are random daily "explosions" complete with sound effects and trembling windows... they are rumored to originate from Saudi Arabia's (they are using explosives to build roads) Anyway, today we eat and tomorrow we dive...
