DAY 12 – 27th December 2006 (Wednesday) – PERTH 10
· Another hot day today. Last I heard it was over 37oC.
· Decided to go to the PerthMuseum today. On the way I decided to do some more exploration and drove passed the GloucesterPark (where I plan to celebrate New Years Eve). It is right next to Victoria Park (where my apartment is) but on the other side of the river. I have to cross two bridges, but I believe it is walkable. I discovered that the WACA (Western Australian Cricket Association) oval is right next to GloucesterPark. You always hear about the WACA on the TV or Radio – now I know where it is. I also discovered that GloucesterPark is some form or Raceway (don’t think it is horses, it looks more like a motor raceway from the outside). Interesting.

· I found my way to the PerthMuseum – in actual fact it is called the WesternAustralianMuseum. Went inside and looked around. It was spectacular on the outside, but on the inside, it was rather disappointing. The AdelaideMuseum offered more. One thing I did like about the WA Museum is that they had a section on Historical Technologies, Clothing, Household cutlery, and Toys. What a great idea.
· I also discovered that next to the WesternAustralianMuseum is the WA Arts Gallery and the Perth Goal. I walked throughout the Perth Goal and the WA Arts Gallery. Both were interesting. I also felt that the WA Arts Gallery wasn’t as good as the Adelaide Arts Gallery, even though their building was sculptured and extremely modern to look at.
· It was so hot I couldn’t wait to get into the car and put on the airconditioner full blast. I next went to the Northbridge restaurants precinct so I decided to go and have lunch at “The Greek” restaurant. All restaurants were open. I went inside and the owner and his extended family were sitting at one of the table settings. I asked for a meal. They said that they did not open up until 5:30pm – so I left. I had a little chat to the owner and asked if this is the only Greek Restaurant in Perth because I had not seen others. He really didn’t answer the question but told me that there were NOT many Greeks in Perth – those that were there are Australianised and they are fragmented as a community. Interesting.
· I walked across the street and saw an arcaded of Asian Foods, so I had a Malaysian dish for lunch.
· I drove home as it was very hot.
· George rang me to let me know that he will be coming here for New Years Eve and spend the last week with me in Perth. We will be driving back together. I am excited and I can’t wait to see my son.
· I decided to make “E Mulba Di” (I think that’s how you pronounce it let alone spell it) for tea. It is an Eggplant, Zucchini and Onion dish my mother used to make. I don’t know how to make it but I can guess. I know it has to be baked in the oven. It turned out alright and I now know what else I need to do to make it better. I’ll make it when George comes.
· Fanie rang to let me know that she is organising the flight for George on New Years Eve. She said that the flight, one-way, will cost about $350. That is unbelievable. Only last week it was sitting at $205. It looks as if Fanie and Harmony won’t be coming to Perth after all at that price.
· Anyway, I spent the rest of the night chasing a Cockroach. In the cupboards, under the coffee table, under the lounge chair – while in my jocks. The little bugger snuck away from me, out of sight. It disappeared for what seemed like hours (I think it was only a few minutes – don’t know, lost track of time). I was desperate (and petrified). I had to find it – then it came from nowhere and attacked me. But I got the sucker at the end. I sprayed it with three different spays I found in the cupboard. The cockroach eventually rolled over and was kicking its legs in the air. I waited, and waited, until it stopped kicking its legs. It fooled me a few times when I thought it was dead – but NO, it was kicking its legs again. After staring at it for at least ½ hour without its legs moving I did my victory dance in my jocks, jumping up and down around the room to celebrate its death – and I was LOUD! Then … I had to pick it up. I used 20 to 30 tissues to pick it up and put it in the bin. And I washed my hands several times.
