How can I start to describe this place, the two words that come to mind are Amazing and Enchanting. Sukhothai, established during the 13th century, translates to "Rising of happiness" it was the first capital of Thailand and also the birth place of Thai culture. We decided to stay in Old Sukhothai right next to the historical park entry. After a short break we hopped next door and hired two bicycles which we used to zoom around all afternoon till we had seen pretty much the full extent of the park. The ancient ruins where amazing, I lost count of the amount of Buddha images and pagodas that the grounds held, all of them seemed to be apart of the very soil that they were sitting on, like they were not built but had rather grown there.... Very fitting for the Buddhist culture....

As the first historical park was not enough we decided to head out the next day to another park about 50km away called Si Satchanalai-Chaliang, (say that a few times in a row). Though very similar to Sukhothai, this park was less frequented by tourists and just as spectacular but in it's own unique way.
'they were not built but had rather grown'
After 2 delightful days in the Sukhothai region we jumped on another bus for about 6 hours and headed north to Chang Mai...
