London Calling

I'm in London! Ancilla and I left Vancouver at 7:30pm August 29th, and got to London at around 2:30pm August 30th. It was a pretty grueling flight with that no water bottle restriction - and no chapstick either! I got a bit dehydrated, since all Air Transat gave out were these little half-cups of water a a time. One thing about being really short is that I didn't feel squished, although there wasn't much space around seats.

Anyhow, back to London. Yes, we're finally here!! We took the Gatwick Express into the city. If you have 4 people, you can ride for the price of 2, so we rounded up a 2 other girls who were travelling and met our first Londoners. I can't even describe what I was feeling when I stepped out of Victoria Station and into the streets of London. It was amazing! We loaded up Oyster Cards to ride the tube, and headed over to our hostel. I'm really glad I went to Hong Kong last year, cuz now I can see where they got their influence for their metro system from. It's almost exactly the same, "Mind the Gap" and everything! We eventually made our way to King's Cross Station then walked over to the Generator hostel. I think my pack is just bearable, but any heavier and it would be really tough to carry. So we checked in, unloaded our stuff, and went out to get some grub. We wound up getting sandwiches, fruit and yogurt from Waitrose, a sort-of a Save-on-Foods of London but a bit smaller, and with that same sterile atmosphere. Cost about £2.50 (CDN$5.00) for dinner. We then took the tube to Leicester Square, and have been here ever since - sitting in this little internet cafe right now. Maybe I'll try to catch a show while I'm here because some great shows are playing! We're going to Bath tomorrow, but it was a fun first night. Cheerio!

I can't even describe what I was feeling when I stepped out of Victoria Station...
