Mui Ne
From Southeast Asia Summer 2006 in Mui Ne, Vietnam on Aug 08 '06
We arrived in Mui Ne at about 2 after our beautiful motobikeride. We checked into a hotel and went to explore. We realised that Mui Ne is basically a huge stretch of beach with lots of resorts dotted along it. The beach in front of our hotel was not very nice, but i guess you cant expect much more for $10 a night. In the evening we found a lovely little restaurant where Suzie ordered grilled shrimp. They brought a little barbecue to the table with the big shrimps still alive and the woman cooked them in front of us. They kept on jumping off onto the floor and we felt a bit cruel for roasting them simply because we were hungry!
Mui Ne is famous for its fish sauce and you can tell- you can smell it everywhere! It is also famous for its sand dunes which we got up at 4am!!! the next day to see the sunrise over and go sand sledging. We went to the red and white sand dunes, the canyon and the streams and waterfalls. In the afternoon we hopped on the bus to Saigon.
Fishy fish sauce!
