May 7, 1995 - Day in Lindos

May 7, 1995

Today we went to Lindos. We took the 10:00 bus (public, not as comfy). It was jam-packed! SRO!

When we got there, about 11:15, we went to the W.C. PawPaw and Kenny went first. Then Ken came back and told us we had to go to the W.C. We had to pay for toilet paper. Since the city neglects to restock the supply, a man bought some and was making a turning! Well, we got in and guess what the toilets were?!? Holes!! Porcelein holes in the ground! Seriously! Turkish pots: you just need to squat and go, and hope you don't get wet. But that's not the most disgusting thing we saw today!

So, after the W.C., we went up to the akropolis of Rhodes. Not much but the scenery up there, but the donkey ride up was great! The scenery  was the best so far...outstanding. The blue of the ocean was so perfect, so incredible, it didn't seem real. Like in a fairy tale. And the shade was so deep.

The donkey ride was a great experience, but it was pretty much the same as a horse, but lower and more sure-footed. I still like horses better.

Then we ate lunch, gyros. This time Marie L. even had one! But the other Marie (Gram) skipped out to have some yogurt.

Then we went to the beach. We weren't heading there, we were wandering, but since I wanted to go, we followed a guy who knew which way to the beach. It was so lovely I can't explain it.

But, the worst thing was that two thirds of the women in bikinis were without tops!!! I mean, naked to below their belly button! Some were huge! I swear I couldn't do that! They just sat around, laid around on their backs, walked around and talked to others like it was nothing. A few in the presence of guys, were putting lotion on!Oh. My. God.

We took the bus home, went to the W.C., O.T.E., and to E.A.T.! We ate at the akropolis. It was wonderful!
