A quick description of the city for some background (my paraphrase with info grabbed from other sources such as Lonely Planet and Wikipedia):

Mar del Plata is located about 400km south of Buenos Aires directly on the Atlantic Ocean, and has population of more than 500,000 people. The city was founded in 1874 as a commercial and eventually industrial center, but in recent years has become extremely popular as a weekend, getaway destination for upper middle class portenos (citizens of Buenos Aires).

Mardel has skyscrapers everywhere that look like they were assembled without much planning, but the city also has some very charming neighborhoods with grand old houses and beautiful architecture.

Tourism is main economic activity for the city, although a substantial fishing port also exists south of town (see pictures).
