First weekend in Granada

My first weekend in Granada was one of the best ever. On Friday, Samantha and I wandered around and stopped in a few bars and met the cutest old Spanish man named Sebastian. He´s awkward and lovable and talked to us about Spanish poetry. After we had a few beers with him, we went to a club (can´t remember the name) and met 4 Spanish guys who walked around with us for a while. We heard a bunch of female voices singing in an alley, so we went to investigate and found seven girls, dressed to impress, singing and drinking in an alley. They were a riot. They found out Sam and I were from the USA, so they busted out their umbrellas and sang "UNDER MY UMBRELLA-ELLA-ELLA-EH-EH-EH" and refused to believe that I wasn´t from New York (??). After a while, Sam and the guys went their separate ways and I hung out with those girls until about 5am. They were so much fun. I took pictures with my two favorites, Cristina and Leticia (who insisted we take the picture under her umbrella) who are going to school to be German-Spanish translators. I´ll post pictures soon, I promise!

Saturday, I slept until two and then met Sam and Katie at the Plaza Nueva to take a tour of the old Moor district in Granada. It was AMAZING. We saw San Nicholas Point which is a plaza-type thing that overlooks the entire city of Granada, including the Alhambra and the mountains. On that plaza, gypsies dance all day, sell crafts, play music and seem to have a crazy time in general. I never wanted to leave, it was such a cool place.

That night (Saturday), Jackie and I went out to a bar called Tantra where we met this guy named Angel who is in love with Jackie and somehow knows all the bouncers of all the best clubs in Granada (score). We went with him to a club called Granada 10 which was the craziest club I´ll probably ever go to. It was HUGE and packed with people. We danced with some Spanish guys who screamed "I LOVE AMERICAAAAAA" at every opportunity. I have pictures of that club and they barely do it justice. It was insane. We stayed until about 3:30am and then I couldn´t take it anymore so we went home.

Sunday, I slept until 2 again and then Jackie called and said that Angel and a friend wanted to meet us for tea, and to practice their English skills. So we met Angel and his friend Jose (!!!) at 4:30 and they took us to this cute little tea house where we sat and told off-color jokes for a few hours, in Spanish and English. Jose and I swapped Women Jokes (there are some pretty good Spanish ones).

After the tea house, I did a poor job explaining to Angel the idea of San Nicholas point, and dancing gypsies... but somehow he knew exactly what I was talking about, so he and Jose took us up there and we watched the gypsies dance at sunset. I have a video that I´ll post soon!! We walked around the streets for a while and then went to a pub to watch a Real Madrid game before calling it a night.

I hope all of you are doing well! Thanks to you guys who called my cell from Skype, it´s always fun to hear from you!
