Back in town
From Hi everybody who made it this far to our blog! It is less then a week left before we leave rainy in Trollhattan, Sweden on Jan 05 '08
Good morning!
We woke up today at 5:30, which is still later then our two first days in Sweden. The difference was that we woke up at home in our bed. Olz said that he had a strange dream tonight. He dreamed about sun and sea and that we went to Australia.. :)))) It seemed to me that we had the same kind of dream, because I was also dreaming about beaches and strange animals. Hahaha But then we saw all these beautiful pictures that we took and understood that it was not just a dream… It was a fairy-tale which is over and all we see if we look outside is just snow.
Of course, we will send more pictures or maybe even videos to all of you a little bit later, but you can get a little teaser now. ;)
Other wise, we have been thinking a lot about differences and strange things that Australians do and here is a short list:
· Yes, the water runs in the opposite direction in the sink
· And yes, they drive on the “wrong” side of the road. But unlike in England people even go in the streets on the “wrong” side and keep left when going escalator.
· Australians LOVE to switch on the air conditioner to “min”-level, which resulted in minor colds for both of us. So if you are in AU and have plans to go in the shopping center or take a train be prepared to have a fur coat with you.
· Never the less that they have tons of strange fruits and vegetables they don’t eat them. So when you order something in the restaurant make sure that you order salad as well, otherwise you will not get anything not even a dried lettuce.
· Don’t be surprised when you get French fries with everything you order in the restaurant. It doesn’t seem that they know that you can cook potatoes or make mashed potatos. They LOVE French fries which they call chips and can eat them as snacks and we have seen a result – a few really fat australians.
· Another thing about their food. Breakfast. In Australia you can have breakfast all day long if you wish and you can order either a continental breakfast or a full one. The continental breakfast means that you get coffee or tea with a toast with nutella or peanut butter (yammy!!) or jam or in the best case honey. You may also get some cereal with milk. If you take a full breakfast then you get the same thing together with the eggs and bacon. Anyway we didn’t think that it was such a good breakfast alternative for us and often bought our own breakfast.
· Australians don’t know how to queue up and we saw it many times when they had the worst queue system in the popular attractions, for example you queue to pay AFTER you hade a ride.
· Australians are very nice people and they always ask you “Hi, how are?” even in the shops and even if it is the first time they see you. In the beginning this question made us confused ;)
· Australia is a VERY adapted for disabled
· The carts in the subway has two levels just like buses in London
· In Australia you have to be in a good shape if you want to cross the road. The deal is that the pedestrians have only a few seconds when they get green light, which pretty soon becomes twinkling red. If you are not fast enough then you have to wait a long time until its your turn again, because all the cars have to get red in the corsning for pedestrians to cross the road. This means that it is not every other time that pedestrians (or even cars) get green, but every third or even forth! This in our opinion is more dangerous than safe, because people are trying to cross the road anyway even if when they have red.
