First Day on the Expedition

Joined up successfully with the expedition on the 8th December. First impressions really good, not least because there are only going to be seven of us on a 22 seater truck for the first part of the journey. That also means a tent each when camping.

We camped at a reasonable camp site in Nairobi on Saturday night and got to know each other over a beer.

Bags of space but no bags

Meaningless names until I put the pictures up but there is Rose, Matt, Jess, Rachael and Jodi as well as Annette and myself. The driver is Darren. With the exception of Jess who is travelling before she goes to university, all of us on the trip have given up our jobs to be here. Must have been something in the water.

Great start to the trip. Rachael lost her lugggage for two days (or rather BA did) and then Jodie started throwing up as a result of Nairobi fish stew. Promises to be a good trip.

PS In case you think we were being neurotic about safety in Nairobi, have a look at the intro in the Lonely Planet guide which says it's a dodgy place. Our view is that its all PR put about by the taxi drivers to drive up business. (As they say, the only certainties in life are death and taxis!)
