Wednesday morning we took the ¨chickenbus¨ from San Pedro to Quetzaltenango (everyone calls it by its Mayan name Xela). It was a cheap option to use the ¨public¨ transport but also quite a gamble, you never know what happens in a chickenbus.

All went well and aftering arriving in Xela we immediately saw it was a big city (biggest after Guatemala City). There were lots of shops and most people that are walking in the city have a job and have time to spend money in shops or restaurants.

Its a busy city with lots of cars, but we found a quite hotel/hostel near the Central Park on a quiet street. There were only a few things you can do in Xela, and we done them all within the 48 hours before we left. The best thing is to visit the Hot Springs near Xela (see things to do), other not so interesting things were the Museum of Natural History (They had 1 dead Quetzal bird), and the Zoo (They had 2 jaguars and lots of ducks).

We wanted to meet  up with two friends from Antigua, but didn´t manage to arrange the meeting succesfully (we did try 3 times) and since it got a bit boring in Xela, we decided to leave after 2 days for Coban.
