Today was our Wat day but it was also the first day that the sun appeared in Bangkok by early afternoon we were pooped and needed to return to the hotel for a swim.  Daniel also enjoyed a Thai haircut and looks very handsome!

First Stop:  Wat Arun, very colorful Wat decorated with ornate flower mosaics fashioned from Chinese porcelain

Second Stop:  Wat Pho, amazing gold reclining Budda.  Our favorite.

Third Stop:  Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace.  Apparently this is open every day but today.  The King happened to be visiting for some type of Buddhist holy day!  We may try to see this again on our return to Bangkok before returning to Singapore.

I may have mentioned the need to avoid mass gatherings and protests in the City.  Yesterday, on our way to the boxing matches, Dan and I had to sift ourselves through a crowd of 5000 people scattered along tarps on the ground.  We thought they were waiting to get tickets to the boxing match which is quite popular but after reaching the boxing stadium it was apparent they were not there to watch boxing as the stadium is not that large and there was no crowd there.  I read in the paper today that this was a mass protest at the Department of Agriculture due to foreclosure on many farmers property.  Oops.

Tomorrow we head to Kanchaburi (the River Kwai) for a few days.  We have been unable to secure guest house reservations so wish us luck!  This is an hour and a half bus ride from Bangkok.
