Franz Josef is a small little village whose sole existance is to allow easy access to trekking on the nearby Glacier. So thats what we did!

Being the hard core extremeists that we are, we opted for the full day treking and were really glad we did. You get completely kitted out with waterproofs, boots and these talons to grip the ice and then follow a guide as he chops a path into the ice with his pick axe! Extreme job or what! It was a good laugh and nowhere near as cold or as tough as I thought it would be, though I did have a few seconds of "oh shite I´m trapped" as we passed through a tight little crevice. Our guide kindly informed us that only one person have ever gotten so stuck in one that they had to dig her out!
